I have an HP 15" notebook with core i7-6700HQ CPU (2.5 - 3.6 GHz), but takes only DDR3 memory. I currently have 16 GB of PC3-12800 DDR3-1600 CL9 RAM in it. The HP spec for the system board says it will take up to DDR3L-1866 memory. Now, since this notebook has only the intel 530 IGP, (and the chipset / system board is rated for max RAM speed of 1866 MHz), would the 530 IGP (shared w/main memory) performance improve if I put DDR3-2133 CL11 RAM in it? I'm hoping the system would end up down-clocking the 2133 CL11 to 1866 CL9 (or even better, maybe even running it at 2133 MHz @ CL11, after all). I can get 16 GB of G.Skill DDR3-2133 Mhz CL11 RAM for $90 USD. Worth it? Yay, or nay?

In other words, is PC3-2133 @ CL11 > PC3-1600 CL9, for integrated graphics cards like the intel HD 530, and for its frames rates in games like Second Life & Eve Online? (i realize this is a stretch, but i'd have all the eye candy & gfx effects turned way down. The native res. of the 15" screen is 1920x1080...it's an IPS screen and it's gorgeous).

    Thanks!

ps - just to be clear, I'm talking about DDR3-2133, *NOT* DDR4-2133.

Doesn't the laptop have a dGPU though? why do you need the iGPU?

    Hi, Don -

No dedicated GPU. Just the integrated intel 530, unfortunately. Thus my concern about getting the fastest RAM possible for it, since it is shared with the main system memory.
