    You don't need a motherboard, just the Nvidia 8800M GTS MXM card from HP. The one from HP made for the HDX is the only one that works. Skip eBay.

    As for changing/upgrading the CPU, that can be done also. Your options are T9300, T9500, X9000.

    Only reliable place to get a new motherboard is from HP parts.

    Undue what you did from within Vista.

    This might help: Enable Hidden BootScreen in Windows Vista - How-To Geek

    Recheck the Gui boot option.

    As for BIOS screen, that shouldn't have anything to do with what you did since it is before the OS even loads. The problem might be that you are set up to boot to external display. Hit Fn+F4 at boot to switch display modes.
