Hello! So I have the Envy 17 3200 CTO 3D Edition and have been having some issues lately. My disk drive for starters, is constantly ejecting every disc I put in it. It doesn't attempt to read anything. I haven't even used the drive since I've gotten the laptop in 2013. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Pull both the bottom covers off, disconnect the battery, remove the CD rom, take it apart and clean the track/slide/gears with a good quality q-tip. Lubricate the drive gears and slide with a high quality silicone grease. I prefer a silicon vacume grease, it sticks better to the slides, screw gears and motor drive.
If that doesn't work, try for a new/refirbished/used item.

    Ello there,

Doing some research on the Envy 17 30xx.

Can anyone confirm if the laptop has a mux chip as opposed to muxless?

Muxless and dynamic only since driver version 13.4

    Thanks troyboytn,

Am aware that the driver forces dynamic mode past 13.4.

However Windows 10 in conjunction with the latest Envy 17 3xxx BIOS also switches off the Intel GPU automatically from what I understand.

I guess the laptop itself in all incarnations 30xx and 3xxx both have mux chips on the motherboard.

Was trying to see if I can port the function of switching off Intel for other laptops.

Need help. My 17t-3200 (upgraded to 250GB SSD, used original drive as 2nd drive) is running into problems. I had Windows 10 and got the blue screen of death. Ended up doing a factory reset. I'm back to Win 7 which is ok, now my brightness control button works! I never got it to work with Win8/Win 10 upgrade. However, when after reinstalling back my applications (LR/PS), the laptop gets stucked on the Windows startup screen (Windows starting black screen with windows logo). Fans running and will just stay there for hours. I did a HP check once and got hardware components are ok. Need help!

I'm about to do another factory reset but I think i've spent too much time on this laptop that I may just end up getting a new one.
