I have tried to isntall the new drivers for my hp envy 15, which is ATI HD 4830. I downloaded the latest one from the AMD website. everything installs correctly, but after i restart the computer I get a blue error screen everytime now. What is wrong?

The exact same thing happened to me when I updated to the latest ati driver. For me I couldn't even use the windows restore feature, everytime I try it just hangs up for hours doing nothing I tried re-installing .NET in safe mode uninstalling the driver using CCleaner..etc everything you could think of and the only thing that work was a complete format and a clean install and then I used the recommended envy drivers found somewhere in this forum.

BUT you can try to restore your system I believe you do so by pressing F11 or F09 while booting I hope someone correct me.

That is what happened to me. There is some driver compatability issue with some recent windows update that did it. For now, I have to restart using the "disable driver signature enforcement" and it works.

-If you can boot into safe mode, do it.
-Go to device manager, and disable the display adapter.
-Shut down and start windows normally. If it works with the display adapter disabled, then that's the problem for sure.
    -Enable it, then shut down.
-Mash f8 while the comp is starting up to get to the advanced boot options menu. Once there, select the disable driver signature enforcement option. It should boot normally.

If you can't get into safe mode, then get a windows disc and do a repair install to let you get into safe mode.

Holy crap! That was plaguing me for a long time. That totally worked, my computer now restarts/shuts down without BSOD. I even went as far as to get the debugger and find the name of the driver file that was causing it, but a few hours of Google searching couldn't even turn up anything that worked. Awesome. Thanks much.

That said, any downside to disabling driver signature enforcement? Will it just skip the warning message that you see when installing drivers that aren't signed/properly? Or is it potentially a bad thing?

No problem! I went through a lot of time and headaches to figure that out when it happened to me. I still don't know what exactly causes the incompatibility, but I suspect a clean install will take care of it once and for all. It happened to me after a Windows update. Only a certain update caused it, and I don't know which one. I also don't know why it happens to some, but not others.

As far as I know, there's no real downside to the signature enforcement besides just besides being a pain to do everytime. I see it as a temporary solution to doing a clean install.
