I think an even better car analogy is a comparison to the Buick Lacrosse.

Buick has an even worse name than HP in the premium segment, and the Lacrosse costs less than the competition and provides more premium features and looks for the price.

That doesn't change the fact that they have such an astronomically high defect/failure rate compared to other manufacturers. ASUS sells many budget laptops, but (if the information I read is true), they have the lowest defect/failure rate among (major) OEMs.

I'm mainly saying that PC companies seriously need to overhaul customer support. You are right though, I know some people that actually like the bloatware.

I'd also like to point out that HP has a pretty large share of the PC market which would contribute to the failure/defect rate. I do agree that their products aren't top notch and their rates still are pretty high though & ASUS products are pretty good quality (I own one myself).

EDIT: FIRST POST ON THE 1,000th page, do i get something?

Did the people with the whine issue already try disabling processor idle states to see if it is possible to get rid of it?

There's some information online regarding other laptops with the whine (supposedly a fault of poor motherboard design?) and apparently it worked for them but there seems to be some undesirable consequences:

"Note that disabling the processor idle states on a system has severe negative energy efficiency and thermal consequences and should be done only in consultation with the system or processor vendor."
