Okay ive installed linux went to the Nvidia X Server settings and ran a command in the Terminal and they report two different clock speeds Screenshot at 2020-02-28 02-31-59.png It seems the GPU is stuck in a permanently low power state if what the terminal reports is true dispite what I set in the settings. Anyone can provide more details from the info provided in the screenshot would be very well appreciated

I buy them round, bend and then flatten. However, there was a video around of a guy bending flat pipes. Basically he was using a vise with a penny or washer, or something with enough diameter (whatever you need) and thickness (~3mm for most pipes out there) clamped in there and rolling the pipe until it bends enough. I'll see if I can find it.

    Found it, enjoy!

From my experience working copper I can tell you this: copper work hardens. This means that once it's bent and flattened it becomes brittle and unbending it can cause it to kink and break. To prevent this you need to heat the copper red hot so that its surface changes color (usually pink to orange), that softens it up and then you can work it with less chance of kinking or cracking.

Of course that means that bending a heat sink pipe with refrigerant without destroying it it is simply not possible, but if somehow you can empty it and refill it afterwards then no problem.

Do you know what kind of refrigerant should be used. Does anyone have any experience adding refrigerant. Couldn't you use water. It has a huge affinity for heat and the heat of the chip wouldn't be enough to vaporize the water.

Lol thanks for the link. That guy is something else. Love the pics, lol

I guess I should have googled first. found a bunch of info.
    Thanks guys

No experience making heat pipes, but check this video,

It would seem water would be OK and that it could be done by hand, but if you check this video, it's much more complex ;-)

Over on the ultimate upgrade page someone has quite easily, without any fuss, installed an Nvidia M2000M.

Does anybody know if a higher iteration of that card (M5000M) will work?

I'm absolutely sure 980m is as high as you can go on an 8740w. I found a bargain on one and threw a GTX 965m I wasn't using in it to-day.

Does the 980M work with the DreamColor screen? I was under the impression that not all graphics cards do.

Also, as I mentioned, someone on the ultimate upgrade page installed an M2000M card in their 8740W.

The 980m will work fine with dreamcolour. As I mentioned I'm running it's snot nosed little brother the GTX 965m, just fine in an 8740w and what's more I've read multiple accounts of M5000m's ( which are basically lower clocked 980m's ) running fine on the very platform you mention
