I think I'm just going to get a a HP Q5000M. It's the fastest card native to the machine and should be fast enough for my needs ......

I'm going to repeat this post on the other forum I frequent here. After the windows 10 update on the 31st my 965m started throwing a code 43 error and not functioning correctly. I reinstalled drivers...no help I used DDU for a totally clean reinstall.... still code 43. I rolled back the update and the card instantly started working correctly..... I hope no one else goes through this.....but perhaps this may help if they do.

I ultimately ordered a k3000m , it's a bit better than gtx 660m, cost 35 bucks as opposed to 200 and is very compatible ... And I got a HP version......and a bit faster than the 5000m (which is at least 200 if you can find one ) without bottlenecking at the cpu

    • I painted myself into a corner on my 8740W DC2 running Win 7.
While in Catalyst Control Panel I toggled the 10 bit panel option. When I restarted the machine started normally, but then the screen went black. The machine is running, though.

I rebooted into safe mode, but Catalyst won't run in Safe Mode, so I can' unselect 10 bit.
    What to do?

Does the panel store whatever info? These machines can be had fairly cheap on ebay ......someone point me out if I'm but it seems to me Putting the hard drive in another 8740w with a normal screen might save you?

failing that you could just remove the driver using another machine as ai described above ....it would have a different driver most likely so any laptop would do

I did a restore, unchecked 10 bit panel, and I'm up and running. But no matter how many times I change resolution to medium or high, it reverts to 8 bit color.

When it rains it pours. My primary 8740W 5000M has gone bad. What is the best option for me price/performance wise? The K series seems to be most compatible, so I would want a card that is at least as powerful as the 5000M. Amazon seems expensive, so if anybody has any suggestions of a good vendor I would appreciate it.

    Many thanks

will the Nvidia Quadro K3100M fit in the same heatsink as the 5000?

It seems the K3100M might be a good choice, and they are pretty reasonable in price.
