I have been looking at the Dell Latitude e6400, Lenovo T410, and the HP Elitebook 8440P. Dell is slow on the tech refresh of the Latitude and the T410 is not as solid as I would like (Plastic, Loose Battery, Squeaky Keyboard).

I am learning that you really cant customize an HP unless you don't care about the price tag. I mostly use Business Apps, Cloud Services, and Demo software/hardware products (Demos in Virtual Box Machines). My main criteria is a light weight, durable machine. Of course the faster the better!!!

An 8440P with i5-520M, Integrated Graphics, 1600x900, 4GB Ram, and 250 GB HDD is over $2K when customized.

    Pre-configured with an i7-620M, NVIDIA NVS 3100 (512 MB), 1600x900, 4GB RAM, and 320 GB HDD is $1500.

Will the i7 and NVIDIA significantly reduce the battery life and run warmer?

afaik the core-i5 540m is more power efficient than core-i7 620; also cooler.

    Another question:
Does HP 8440p feature nVidia Optimus switchable Graphics?

Or is it the same as Lenovo T410 - either integrated or discrete?

The HP has the NVIDIA NVS 3100 graphics with 512 MB dedicated gDDR3 video memory or the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD

The T410 offers the NVIDIA NVS 3100m Graphics 256MB DDR3 with AMT or the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD - AMT

So Video-Ram is the only difference?

If they're both GDDR3, the difference in memory will not have any noticeable effect on performance.

I'm also eagerly waiting reviews. I love the style of the elitebooks, and the price point if fairly decent. Here's hoping they use a decent screen.

Thanks for the video, looks great.

I currently own a HP 6910p and in not completely satisfied with it due to its excessive noise and heat level. I hope the 8440p will be more quite. Reviews of the 8440w are saying it is a very quiet note book:

During normal use (browsing the web or working on a text document) the EliteBook 8440w remained quite cool and very quiet. The exhaust fan wasn't audible except when running performance benchmarks or stressing the CPU and graphics. You won't have to worry about bothering coworkers or clients with unwanted noise coming from your laptop in a quiet office.

Hopefully the 8440p use the same cooling system as the 8440w, and since it is possible to configure the 8440w with a quad core i7 as well I would hope that the cooling system is oversized for the dual core i7 and i5's thus making it a cool computer.

I was concidering the t410 but seeing that the cooling system is not on par with the t400 i am hoping the 8440p will come through here.

Battery time also look great: the 8440w tihe a i7 620m and the 25w TDP Quadro FX 380M and 9-cell battery was close to 7 hours. SInce the 8440p use the less power hungry nvs 3100m (14w TDP) I hope battery time with a i5 will be in the 7h+ region.

I wouldn't expect there to be too much of a difference between the 8440p and 8440w. I think it's only the CPU? Let's hope we some decent reviews in the near future (although it could be a little while, sounds like their having problems just getting the things made).

Any news on whether there will be an Ati graphics option?
Unless the nVidia graphics are supported by Optimus...

From what I understand, you can get a software update later for optimus as long as the chipset supports it. IIRC the 8440p has the QM57 chipset, which I believe does support it...

Read a little while ago on a couple different forums that there have been delays in the manufacturing of the new Elitebooks. More recently some users that have ordered the new Elitebooks ahve had their shipments delayed weeks/months.

Some impressions will be much appreciated indeed :)

I am hoping to get the:
    Quadro NVS 3100,
    Core i5-540,
    2GB RAM (+ buy an additional 4gb)
    320GB HDD
    1366 x 768
6 cell :( (no 9-cell options in Norway)

There are not too many options for the 8440p in Norway where I live, and configuring it your self is not an option here. But this one looks fairy nice.

Which one did you go for?

    Hi there,

I usually buy all my stuff from komlett, but the link you sent me was a bit cheaper but the configuration seems to be a little poorer too, except for the resolution.
I know that netshop, mpx and komplett are good, but they are not the cheapest ones out there though.

I am mainly using external monitors when I am not traveling, thus the screen resolution is not a big sale argument for me, I rather have a little more power under the hood.

    price 1750$ (12 133 nok)

    i5 520
    1 x 2 GB DDR3
    250 GB
    1600 x 900
    6-cell

    The closest option:

    Price 1874$ (12990 nok)
    NVIDIA NVS 3100M

According to Hp.no the only shop that carry the WJ683AW#ABN which you linked to is epatner (if you press the "Finn en forhandler" on the laptop all the way to the right (WJ683AW#ABN) the only store popping up is Epartner.
