Doing my usual digging inside of HP's FTP, I found some new graphics drivers that HP will release for the new Intel Sandy Bridge versions of the dv6, dv7, and Envy 17 notebooks.

You can download the Softpaqs directly from HP:

    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50501-51000/sp50640.exe
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50501-51000/sp50641.exe

The driver INF files inside give us some very good hints as to what graphics options will be available for these new notebooks.

    Part of SP50640's INF:

    Code:
    [ATI.Mfg.NTamd64.6.1]

So far, it looks like we're going to see the following graphics configurations for the dv6 and dv7:
    • Intel HD Graphics 3000
    • AMD Radeon HD 6370M / ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6370 (for regular editions?)
    • AMD Radeon HD 6550M / ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6550 (for regular editions?)
    • AMD Radeon HD 6570M / ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6570

What's probably more exciting is that we now know what the Envy 17 will have, and that's the AMD Radeon HD 6850M.

More exact specifications are not currently known yet, but that will probably soon change. :) Please feel free to comment and discuss!

Thanks for the info, hoping for an Envy 17 3D with Sandy Bridge and HD 6850M, that would be an instant buy for me.

They did say that the Envy 15-1200 was going to have a switchable 5730 via these kind of files. That never came to be. I trust this with only a grain of salt. The only way I will know what is what is when they release actual specs on their website.

HD6300M and HD6500M have already been up on AMD.com and they're rebrands of the Mob. HD5400 and Mob. HD56/700 GPUs. The VBIOS on these cards have been changed to add 3D Blue Ray support.

There's a good likelyhood that HD6800M will also be a rebrand of the Mob. HD5800 GPU.

The new GPUs that people will want to look out for are Seymour, Whistler, and Blackcomb which should have model numbers in the HD6400M, HD6600M HD6700M and HD6900M ranges.

What will really be interesting is when HP updates their AMD dv6 and dv7 platforms with Llano. It'll be something if those machines keep their Hybrid Crossfire feature with an APU that has 10-11x the shaders that the current IGP has.

its actually a very insignificant bump in gpu. This stupid naming makes people think a 6370 is better than a 5650. Why the hell does anyone need 512 or 1gb for those budget cards?

Intel Sandy Bridge laptop goes on sale: HP Pavilion dv6-4103TX by VR-Zone.com

The new HP dv6-4103TX with the Sandy Bridge i7-2630QM and ATI HD6570M GPU is already on sale over in Singapore. I've been interested in the Envy 17 3D but will wait and see if a new version with Sandy Bridge is announced at CES. I've had my current VAIO notebook over 3 years now. I can wait a bit longer.

When you have the time, could you be able to do a review? Preferably on the battery life, graphics performance (if you can SCII), heat issues (if any), and screen quality.

Edit: Also, does the 9-cell battery stick out of the laptop or is it level with the bottom of the laptop. Thanks.

Hmm, ok. I probably have time. Yes the 9-cell battery acts as a stump.

wow looks interesting. The cpu is only a little bit below desktop i7's and the GPU is actually GDDR5! I want to see more GDDR5 GPUs as I'd like GPUs at their best without going into the extreme-enthusiast range...

    No switchable graphics support?

Originally these cards were listed on AMD.com with support for Dynamic SG but after checking again it appears that the feature isn't listed on the specs anymore.

Could be it'll have to wait for Catalyst 11.0 drivers to be enabled.

Already have my Crucial RealSSD 256GB ready, and just need a nice Sandy Bridge laptop to put it in. These are exciting days for us Notebook enthusiasts :)
Sandy Bridge plus AMD HD6xxx are looking good so far, but it's all for nothing without switchable graphics, so I really hope for that.

By the way: Do any of you guys know what kind of chipset we're looking at for the Sandy Bridge CPU's? I'm still hoping for 6gb/s SATA amongst other things.
