I have been looking at it as a secondary notebook as well and, from what I can tell, the K625 is only slightly better than the L335/625 but with less power consumption (15W to 18W max TDP). The K325 is gonna be slightly behind the L335/625 but with a much lower TDP, 12W. Battery life on the dm1z, as well as the refresh dm3z, will probably be about 5-5.5 hours under normal web browsing.

Does any body know what type of ram does the DM1z use?

It's DDR3, probably the same as the other Pavillions.

EDIT: abaddon's sig says 1066MHz, which sounds about right.

Thanks for the reply but I have another question.
The options for memory are 2GB, 3GB, 5GB., only one DIMM (memory module).
After a quick search in newegg the modules that are available for sale are 1066MHZ are 1GB, 2GB, 4GB.
So, my questions is does this mean that the motherboard has an embedded 1GB ram in addition to the installed DIMM?

Yeah 1GB is built in to the mobo, like Dell did with the Studio 14z.

My HP DM3z has a "rated" battery life of 6 hours but instead it gets about 4-4.5 hours.

I would guess about 5.5 hours of actual battery life since the new Neo processors aren't exactly faster, but instead more energy efficient.

I am thinking seriously about this laptop. I love HP's. I also have a dm3 and a dv4. I went on HP.com and customized a dm1 with 5gig DDR3 ram 1.5 ghz Dual AMD Neo II K625 processor and 320 gig 7200 rpm HD and the price was 599.00. Going to possibly get one in the next couple months. It seems like a powerful machine especially for the size. I love the smaller laptops, while my wife likes 15" plus. I like 13.3 i would like smaller but the are not powerful, now it seems I can get a powerful machine and under 13.3"

    Great job HP :D

If this laptop can pull of 5 1/2 hours of battery life, I think it's a serious winner.

I received mine two days ago. K625, 3G RAM

The battery lasts 3-4 hours. It may not last 3 hrs for heavy usage. With lowest screen brightness and wifi off, it lasted barely 4 hours. Its not bad compare to my emachine e627, but sure isn't 5.25hr as HP listed.

the assembling work isn't good, my laptop arrived with back cover mis-assembled, and I had to fix it myself. The front shell below the touchpad is out of shape as well.

The speaker is pretty loud, which is good.

The left hand of the machine gets pretty hot during usage.

My system scored 412 on passmark, 1000 on cpu mark.

Sounds like a disappointment. Doesn't HP promise 7 hours of battery life or something like that?

    Thanks for the info.

You should take pictures and do a full review. :)

hehe, Im waiting for other people's test to see if my usage is typical.

HP website said the battery lasts 5.25hr. I dont really know where that 7 hr number come from.

u know, I like that feature, its extremely fast to open, and good enough for most tasks.

Overall, I like the machine, i would get a bigger battery if i could. but this is probably good enough for now.
