I have been looking at it as a secondary notebook as well and, from what I can tell, the K625 is only slightly better than the L335/625 but with less power consumption (15W to 18W max TDP). The K325 is gonna be slightly behind the L335/625 but with a much lower TDP, 12W. Battery life on the dm1z, as well as the refresh dm3z, will probably be about 5-5.5 hours under normal web browsing.

Does any body know what type of ram does the DM1z use?

It's DDR3, probably the same as the other Pavillions.

EDIT: abaddon's sig says 1066MHz, which sounds about right.

Thanks for the reply but I have another question.
The options for memory are 2GB, 3GB, 5GB., only one DIMM (memory module).
After a quick search in newegg the modules that are available for sale are 1066MHZ are 1GB, 2GB, 4GB.
So, my questions is does this mean that the motherboard has an embedded 1GB ram in addition to the installed DIMM?

Yes, that appears to be the case. I'm 99% sure it is.

What about the real life battery life? Has any body tested it?

Yeah 1GB is built in to the mobo, like Dell did with the Studio 14z.

My HP DM3z has a "rated" battery life of 6 hours but instead it gets about 4-4.5 hours.

I would guess about 5.5 hours of actual battery life since the new Neo processors aren't exactly faster, but instead more energy efficient.
