The thing that confuses me is why does Nvidia bother selling them at all? They could just mine on everything they manufacture

Everything Nvidia make is for mining. Gaming coming next:) More profit and it force higher prices both from their AIB partners and retail. Big win for the whole Greedy chain.

Bitcoin Mining Company Hut 8 Buys NVIDIA CMP GPUs Worth $30 Million... hardwaretimes.com

For NVIDIA, this purchase fulfills nearly 60% of its Q1 earnings expectations from the new CMP lineup. Considering that there aren’t many CMP cards available on the retail market, I’m guessing the remaining 40% of the overall 50 million target will also be fulfilled by large-scale deals such as this.

Yeah, this could be an option for the miners gamers:)

Edit. Maybe a new castrated Ampere card on it's way?

    Razer's upcoming AMD-powered 14-inch laptops might get low-TGP RTX 3000 dGPU options only, R9 5900HX + RTX 3070 Max-Q configuration spotted

The thin and light chassis that Razer employs for its 14-inch models could prove too restrictive for higher-TGP dGPUs. (Image Source: Razer)
The inclusion of the Max-Q version of the RTX 3070 seems to be suggesting that Razer's thin and light chassis on the upcoming AMD-powered 14-inch models only allow for lower-TGP dGPU options. Can Razer also add an RTX 3080 Max-Q and are these options really making sense for such price premiums when Lenovo is offering the Max-P versions on the Legion 5 Pro and Legion 7 with superior price/performance ratios?

Unless there is some vapor chamber cooling system involved, Razer is most likley going to use a low-TGP RTX 3060 in order to justify the upgrade to one of those RTX 3070 Max-Q variants. It remains to be seen if Razer manages to offer the RTX 3080 Max-Q option, as well.

Nvidia seems to try help out the gamers. Not Ampere cards but you can at least game if you find some of tthe cards below the 2.5 times higher price above MSRP of $149 US:D Yeah, Nvidia and it's partners make big bucks due the mining boom. And those cards won't destroy for the coming 4000 series cards. Nvidia need buyers when the miningboom is over as well.

NVIDIA To Fight Gaming GPU Shortage With GeForce GTX 1650 Graphics Card, Increased Supply & Availability Expected in Mid Q2

Currently, the lowest price you can find the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 for $399 USD, and that's a 2.5 times higher price than the MSRP of $149 US which the card was introduced at. Increasing the supply may or may not affect the prices much but over the last couple of months, the GTX 1650 is been getting increased attention from mainstream gamers. The card gained the second-highest graphics card share on the Steam hardware survey.

Can't be a bad purchase as long the old card stay on top of Steam hardware survey.
Nice seeing Nvidia can continue make gold of their old CIGAR.gif Can you smell the green smoke of Nvidia's increased profit bro @Mr. Fox The miners is Gods gift to Nvidia, LOOL

Your not wrong. This thread was derailed long ago with the segue into corporate greed. I come here for the entertainment value nowadays; there isn't any actual knowledge to be gleaned from it any more.

That the 1070 =/= the 2060mq sans raytracing & dlss, I'd say that even those 1070/1080 owners should skip Ampere if possible ...like go put a dent in your Steam backlog and/or revisit a few old favorites if need be.

Maybe this thread won't die because we need a thread where we can start speculating about Nvidia's 4000 series mobile GPUs ...since mobile Ampere was sort of a failure.

    This^

A GTX 1070 has similar performance as a 1660ti/RTX 2060 without Ray tracing and DLSS. In other words you can still play AAA games on 1080p on High/Ultra settings without any issues for now. The main problem with Ampere is that its gimped for laptops compared to its desktop counterpart.
