I need to install a CD ROM of an Oxford dictionary on my netbook. The problem is that the activation requires to have the CD inserted on the first use. Using an image of the CD doesn't work. I talked to customer service and they said that there's no workaround. Anyone knows if there's something I can do to install it?

What is that? I'd rather not buy an external unit.

from the sound of it, this is a copy protection mechanism which need to read some info burn right on the CD/DVD that no ripping software would be able to handle.

so i would say you need a physical media.

just don't understand why this form of protection is still being used, it is so ancient.

If it is a copy protection mechanism, it would not work as the ISO image you ripped from the CD/DVD has already lost the info the program wanted to see.

This reminded me in the old floppy days when you need special coping program to duplicate a copy protection treated media and that war went on for years.
