How would I go about finding out what my WEP Key is? I have no idea what it is, and since I am no longer speaking with the person that set up the wireless in my house, i cant get it from them. Or if I cant access it, can I change it with out knowing it?

Have you checked inside your access point/router's web admin console? In my Linksys WAP54G's console, under Wireless > Wireless Security, the Passphrase is there in clear text.

If you can't access the web admin console, you could factory reset it with the little reset button on the access point/router. But that reset all the custom settings back to the factory settings.

What make and model of access point/router do you have?

Reset the router, then access the router to modify the WEP parameters.

You can change it to what you want IF you have physical access to the router. However, this will make their computers no longer work.

Best solution, talk to the person who set it up.

If you do not know the password to get into your router's admin console, then I suggest you start from scratch.

Your best bet is the give your router a hardware reset to the factory. From there, you can setup your router with YOUR password and with YOUR wep key. If you are uncomfortable with these technical details, I suggest you bribe a local computer geek. Free women or a car are good ideas. If not, food and mountain dew are an acceptable substitute.

Eww. I would not ever take mountain dew as a substitute... ever.

There are plenty of guides online on how to proceed with that. You should most likely read, then save them before attempting anything because you might be left in the dark

I was assuming that rhyno had the router user id and password, otherwise how do we know that we are helping someone we shouldn't?

Unnecessary help is what we do! (just like the other unnecessary things we do around here... like posting this message)

Any methods discussed on this thread cannot crack WEP. Sorry, but rules are rules.

If you have physical access to the router (and you should since it is in your home) you can reset and reconfigure. PCs can easily be changed as well.
