Yeah, I wasn't saying that it would be a brilliant choice if safety were a concern (and it should when you purchase any car) The video i posted even said that (at least in that 1st Gen. model) you would be highly unlikely to survive just because of those strong forces being transferred like Bog mentioned.

Even if the passengers, especially the driver, survived the crash, he/she can kiss goodbye to their legs.

On the highway that is true, but in the city they can actually creep up over 40MPG...

If you were in the UK, I'd say check out the Toyota IQ.

By 2010 or 2011 the Toyota IQ is expected to come to the States under the Scion brand.

My family's 1988 Honda Accord could pull out high 30's on the free way.

My car may not get anywere near that MPG (More like... 15), but at least its engine wasn't stolen from a gas-powered kids scooter. Oh, and it can also go over speed bumps. Actually, the smart craps are smaller than some of the speed bumps where I live.

(Its hard typing while holding a puppy...)

The only good think about a smart car that I can see and that is it might be easier to maneuver in the city, but even then I dont know the turning radius or the blind spots.
