I was about to purchase the Razer Blade with 8750H and RTX 2070 Max-Q but then saw some videos on Youtube about not to buy the i7-8750H laptops as the new 9th generation would be announced/coming out within the next couple of weeks. Whilst I don't think the performance delta would be significant, I still think there would be some potential for discounting at my local retailer if new 9th gen laptop CPU models were available... so my question is, how long does Razer actually take to update laptops when new CPU models come out from Intel?

I do not think that there will be much improvement in the CPUs, maybe a small bump in performance, most likely hotter. If they officially have not announced them yet, they will not come to the market for a but, then Razer will have to re update their recently updated laptop, i would say end of summer early fall. If you live on the idea that a new x is coming out, you will chase a laptop forever. As soon as the CPU is out a "new" GPU will be leaked.

I guess the new cpu will come out early May. Razer will launch new blade later May. I got the information from Chinese retailer. They are saying that Razer is preparing a 17 inch narrow bezel machine. Most likely will be a enlarged blade 15.

Let's hope it has better thermals/acoustics and a normal numpad.

I would like to see a 17 inch in the blade advance form factor, not that touchpad on the right crap

While increasing core counts for Intel on 14nm means more heat, it can also lead to less performance as Intel and makers throttle power and cooling to fit ever slimmer cases - leading to the possibility that at some point the previous generation laptop model will offer more performance at a lower cost - like with the Nvidia 20xx GPU's detuned giving GTX 10xx level performance for more money compared to some previous generation laptop models.

If the performance isn't as good and the price is higher when the Intel 9th gen arrive, I'd consider getting the 8th gen models as far back as the GTX 10xx range - make sure you compare benchmarks / reviews with your exact models of interest to decide.

I ended up buying a Blade 15 with RTX2070. Figured it’ll always go out of date anyway but this way I can enjoy it now and sell my old Alienware 13r3 with a 7700hq and 1060 before it’s too old, as well as my Alienware graphics amplifier eGPU and 1080Ti FE.
