Depending on what the problem is, sometimes they don't give you any option except depot. That's generally when they don't have a clue what the problem is and it might be multiple parts. They generally won't do the "shotgun" approach to repair using NBD on-site warranty. Fortunately, things that go wrong are normally pretty easy to diagnose. I've only had to use a depot repair once during a 5-year warranty and I was not pleased with the outcome. It was very fast (total of 5 days including shipping) but they screwed up some things and I had to get them to send me a couple of replacement parts that got broken by their depot muppets.

My preference is NBD parts-only dispatch. I don't need a tech and don't like strangers touching my stuff.

I'm curious on what the service will be like for Clevo/Sager units.

That will likely vary by reseller. Some are going to be remarkably better than others. Unlikely it will ever be viewed as fast compared to Dell/Alienware NBD on-site, but probably a consistently better outcome than Dell Depot repair.

I agree and I find this information regarding warranty and services very valuable for those seeking to find a laptop with a good warranty service. Therefore, for those of you who are reading this shopping the market, make sure to take note of what to expect with the warranty services. Don't let Dell steam roll you into sending your machine out to cartoon land, aka "Depot." Demand what you want, not ask or these clowns will take you out like a casino.

I consider depots the end of line for any laptop. Most depots work on multiple brands by the way. From acers to asus. The outsourced inhouse techs arent always great with dell but when they do screw up they replace the whole system.

But after emaling some people at alienware directly they sent me the parts and i repair it myself.
