    As long as LPC is a @Prema partner or have an agreement of some kind with Prema that's not a problem. Larry is a straight shooter with a good reputation, so I doubt there would be an issue. There have been other Clevo resllers that were distributing PremaMod firmware without permission in the past, and that's definitely not cool.

    They're not yet a prema partner, but soon to be (according to Prema).

    Dell Outlet is always a good choice if you have limited funds.

    It all comes down to price really.

    I don't mind buying a BGA machine if the price is low enough to distinguish them from the true DTR laptops.

    Cheap is always fairly easy to accommodate and forgiving lameness is not difficult when you didn't pay much. However, it doesn't seem like most of the OEMs are giving a break on price with BGA. Seems like most are charging about the same as the superior systems with sockets and slots. Having to pay the same, or close to it, for something inferior is never acceptable in my book. Good examples are the sub-$500 Dell Inspiron notebooks. In that scenario I don't care if it is BGA because they are so cheap and my expectations of it are aligned with the price.

    Need to factor in warranty too...

    Like it or not, Dell still has the best warranty in the market :|

    Sort of. I would never make a buying decision based on the warranty or compromise on the specs I want in favor of a better warranty. If you are comparing identical specs among two brands I would certainly agree.

    It also depends on whether you pay for NBD on-site repair/parts replacement or standard depot repair warranty. Even the NBD support and warranty service is not executed as gracefully as it used to be. They've cut corners and many of the support people are less than competent. The last couple of times I needed to use it I was not very impressed. If you pay extra for NBD on-site it is better to have parts or a tech dispatched to your house instead of sending the machine off to a depot and waiting a long time to hear what they decided about your issue. That's what you can typically expect from most of their competitors.

    The best warranty is one you never need to use.

    Oh yeah, never send to depot.

    @iunlock had some bad experiences and I wouldn't attempt the same thing.

    Oh those Depots...absolute rubbish techs, not even worthy to be called techs... where Dells warranty shines is with their no hassle replacement parts and turn around time. Even with a tech sent to your home, make sure to take control. There is a way...I'll leave it at that.

    @Mobius 1, plastic cap. RoFL...
