how do i know if my desktop has a dvd burner

    how do i know if my desktop has a dvd burner

    Double click on "My Computer" and it will show you the drives (HDD and optical) your machine has. If it is a burner, it should tell you in the drive name. If you want more info on any of these drives, select the drive, right click on it, and and pick "properties". If it is capable of recording, there should be a recording tab.

    You can also look at Device Manager under System Properties if you prefer.

    it says dvd/cd-rw drive (E:)

    Sounds like it can read DVDs, and read or write CDs.

    where would i get one that can burn both/readboth as well can u recommend one and is it hard to install

    NewEgg is a good place for a burner. I am a fan of BenQs like the dw1640s. I have the slightly older dw1620 for over a year. It does very good burns. NEC and Pioneer are also good. You might want to check out CDFreaks for all things related to burning.
