I use a Thinkpad X120e to record, edit, and watch TV shows. Some of the videos have jagged lines around faces of people, door frame, window frames, tree branches, etc.

The same videos will play without any of the same problems on a 3-year old DVR. At first I thought the low-end netbook X120e can not display videos well. So I play the same videos on newer laptops with Ivy Bridge and HD 4000. The same problem occur in the new, more powerful laptops. It's driving me crazy because I can't figure out what's gong on. Please help.

The videos clips are Seinfeld reruns in 1080P.

Most TV stations broadcast their shows in 480i or something like that.
When i watch DVDs on my PC i usually have similar results with jagged lines. :(

Maybe this is an interlace problem, the free vlc player has an de-interlace option.

Sadly on the HD4000 I don't see any options that do deinterlacing. I believe that option is the one you needed.
