Hi everyone, I would just like to say I'm delighted to have this laptop. It's an absolute beast!

That said, I think there are, or there may be some problems with my fans.

So to preface, before the laptop was given to me, it was tested using Intel xtu. However, I have tried the following:

As soon as I launched the laptop, the fans were running full speed. Odd I thought, perhaps windows is just doing some really powerful stuff in the background? I gave it a few hours, and a couple of restarts but the fan just stayed the same. For reference, in CCC I am using "Performance" mode with Fan speed at Automatic and power conservation at performance. Still, the fans are absolutely blasting. So for curiosity sake, I tried running the fans at Max, turns out Max is only a few decibels higher than automatic... Defintely odd, my computer is idle, I don't think the fans should be nearing max at all. So I tried the following to see if it would change.

Uninstall both CCC and Intel XTU -> NVRAM reset -> Reinstall CCC with Obsidian tool, undervolt with TS inside Obsidian Tool.

What this did was bring me back to MSHybrid, and I tried playing along with some settings.

What I figured out here is that MSHybrid(at least for me) is working how I would expect the laptop to run. With one caveat though, custom is dead silent when I'm doing nothing such as simple web browsing or watching youtube. However if I switch back to automatic, fans ramp up again.

So unless I'm mistaken, I don't think this behaviour is normal. And right now, I tried going from Custom -> Automatic back to Custom, and the fans are running near full blast again.

Are there perhaps any other solutions I could try out? Or Custom values that I could try? At the moment, I'm not even sure if either of the fan speeds are working properly.

I have also updated all the drivers, except for Intel ME, Card Reader, LAN, Touchpad, and Intel VGA.

I suppose I can try updating these drivers to see if there is any effect, and I will report back.

Sidenote on temperature, my temps are hovering around mid 50's and I'm only downloading something in the background, nothing else. Can anyone tell me if they share similar results?

Thank you everyone, I just want this laptop to function to the best of its ability!

Well everyone... I managed to fix it. I went through the trouble of everything, NVRAM reset, installing and uninstalling drivers, multiple restarts etc.

Turns out my fan problem was solved simply by pressing reset... I tested it, and fans are working as I expected them to.

Hopefully any poor fella who experiences the same thing happens upon this comment and fixes their problem.

    Cheers!

Sounds like an EC bug(?). Odd behavior, but as long as it's working now, then cool.

Hey so I believe I've maybe done a temporary fix, but sometimes the fans do behave weird. But for now it looks like it was working. Perhaps it has something to do with creator update? In the p650rs-g owner's thread, there are a few of us are experencing similar fan troubles. They mentioned it was near perfect before the update, but then after installing messed things up. I believe we are all in the same boat that the update may have negatively affected it.

I haven't heard any similar feedback on this model yet, but it sounds like you've pooled some analogous experiences from other users, so I'll be sure to bring it up to R & D here and see if our tech support team has gotten inquiries about it.

Quick question: Can you relay your BIOS & EC firmware versions? (Both are found in the main tab of the BIOS setup utility.)

Thanks! Asking around, nobody has run into any specific issues with your versions, although I did notice there's an update:

    BIOS: 1.05.07
    EC: 1.05.05

I'm trying to dig up a log file about what was patched/changed. In the meantime, perhaps you could touch base with your seller about the updates. Flashing the EC to the newer version might help.

    Thanks for the reply!

It seems fine for now. But it was really odd, when I first launched the computer, literally from the start, the fans were running max speeds. The CCC was on performance and on automatic. This lasted basically the entire day, until I pressed reset in CCC. Initially it didn't work, but switching between entertainment mode and performance mode somehow worked.

How? Perhaps i'll never know, I'm just happy to report that things seem to work for now.

Before, even on idle, fans were running max. Now, things seem normal, non-existent when web browsing, turn up when playing games. So to my knowledge, they are acting as expected!

Maybe you hit the max fan button combo by mistake of FN + 1 which will last until the machine is fully powered down or the combo is pressed again.

Hey @Meaker@Sager Unfortunately, that is not the issue, I wish it was ahha!

Actually, my machine was good for two days, but the fan behaviour is almost doing the same thing as I got it :(

After the first day, it worked perfectly as the fans would only spin during games, and immediately stop when exiting then going back to browsing and stuff.

For some reason yesterday, fans started acting erratic again. So in CCC what I would normally try to do is switch between performance and entertainment back and forth a few times and for whatever reason that would work. Fans would die down, and everything would be okay.

But yesterday it went back to near max fan speeds while idling. This is trying all four modes as well, quiet, the other one I don't remember, performance and entertainment.

Really odd behaviour, still unsure if it's windows creator, or perhaps I need to update EC I believe it's called?
