I'll just start by saying that I've set up wireless routers many times, so the fact that I can't get this to work is bugging the **** out of me. I got Northland Cable, and when I plug the modem directly into my computer it works like a charm. However, when I plug the modem into a D-Link DI-514 router and then plug my computer into one of the ethernet ports on the router, the internet won't work. I know my computer can see the router, because I am able to log into it from my comp. I also know the router is working because one of my buddies is able to connect to the wireless network it creates. I have changed the DNS servers to the open dns ones, which worked at my buddy's old apartment with the exact same router and ISP. Is there anything else ya'll'd suggest trying besides making the cable company come out here and set it up?

Have you tried logging into the router and going to the status page (i think thats what its labeled as). Basically, check to see if your router is getting an IP address from your internet provider (cable modem). Also, make sure when you plug the modem's ethernet cable into the WAN port on the router, that you have unplugged power from the modem for about 1 min, and then power it back up.

On your Computer, make sure the IP address information is set to Auto/DHCP instead of setting a static IP address.
