Well, the thing that control when the light comes on is really the driver. If you know how to recode your current driver, you can bypass the light activating when your webcam is on. Other than that, you don't have much options.

Why do you want to disable the LED? A spot of black tape will do it as will a drop of paint, but as far as a setting goes, I doubt there's an easy fix.

wow ... .. you asked a question and you received valid answer.... it may not have been the answer that you are looking but it would work.

To expand on the tape idea I would think that if you took a hole punch and black electrical tape it would almost look like the laptop came that way.

Black tape isn't so much a "Mickey Mouse" answer but a "McGyver" one. ;)

    Either way, tape works.

Not going to happen. Your only options are to cover it with something, or to live with it.

If you're really that anal and it bothers you to see a small piece of tape on the bezel, pull the bezel off and put the tape directly over the LED and then put the bezel back on. TADA!

Sometimes the simplest solution is the best.

I use a small piece of a blue post it note. I like to see that it's on but not blinding me. Personally, I would not want to disable it ... it would be nice to know if the webcam was on for whatever reason ;)

I too have a Dell laptop with the same problem. It actually makes me a little paranoid. I'll be in the middle of doing nothing and the light will flash and the computer will make a noise (the same noise as when you connect flash drive). It feels like it is taking a picture of me. Call me schizo, but I don't like this. The tape idea doesn't bother me, but a technical solution would also be appreciative to protect the monetary value of my computer (sticky goo is not attractive). In the meantime, I'm actually going to deactivate my webcam since I really have no immediate purpose for it anyway.

the blue light on the precision/latitude series is not too bright, its a nice subdued blue...the blue light on my mum's inspiron however....is really annoying cos its so bright....

i suppose you can use a tiny dot of black watercolour...its water soluble so if u decide u want the light back you can just wipe it with a damp tissue
