I replaced the keyboard on my wifes compaq laptop. I forgot to remove the battery but the power supply cord was removed. Now her laptop will not come on is there a fix?

You're sure damage was done, like there was a spark?

Ddi you try pressing the power on button and holding it for 30 seconds, you may need to do this a few times?

On my previous Alienware laptop,I left the battery plugged in (battery is internal) and sparked the motherboard with a screwdriver. It wouldn't turn on when I finished.

I completely disassembled the laptop so I had the bare motherboard, power button/power LED, and 12V DC jack. I removed the drives and RAM. Then I pulled the CMOS battery for 1-2 hours so it completely cleared CMOS.

Plug in the power supply to the DC jack. Then hold the power button until the motherboard POSTs. You might have to try powering it without RAM, or powering it without CMOS battery, so that the motherboard will initiate a diagnostic loop. I don't know exactly how but I was able to make my motherboard POST after attempting it with different configuration of pieces removed.
