    guys please help me again.. i got this problem. in the system says 4GB(2,99 GB usable).

    its my Gateway P7805u, with 9800m GTS. I dont see anyone in this forum having the same prob wit me..
    im using win 7 ultimate x64. I use win 7 manager & tune up utilities.

    Ive had this problem before but stupidly i forgot how to recover the 1.01 GB. I knew it is one of the settings, whether in some tweaking softwares or windows' settings. I have solved a problem like this but i stupidly forget how to do it, one thing for sure is that the problem came from a software or windows' settings.

    In the resource monitor says 1030MB for 'hardware reserved'.

    Please anyone help me figure this out!!

    Thanks

    ===============================================================

    SOLVED!! :D:D:D by bios updating. I hope my problem will be a nice read for the other who maybe has the same problem :)

    What laptop are you using? You likely dedicated 1gb of RAM to your onboard video, or your chipset can't handle more than 3GB of RAM

    @atc edited... please reply again. i think the chipset supports 4GB of RAM, since this problem just came up now and ive been using this laptop normally (4gb ram usable) for nearly 1 year..

    try this:-

    msconfig>boot tab>advanced options>uncheck max. memory box

    might be currently set to 3GB which would account for your problem.

    @ hello moto, thanks. but i have tried that. Doesnt work :(

    I remember there is some settings saying that it will preserve 1 gb ram, or wont let ram less than 1gb. then when i disabled it, the whole 4gb came back. i just dont recall what setting was that..

    I also have turned off system restore as I now have a SSD. What I do though is use the storage drive for windows back up and restore.

    If you boot to safe mode do you still have the memory reserved issue? if not a full removal of the video drivers and then reinstall may do the trick............

    Congrats. I guess the lesson here is that BIOSs can and do get corrupted?
