    The card:

Nvidia Clevo GTX 980m 8GB with Samsung VRAM
    Clevo vBIOS: 84.04.2f.00.79

    Laptops:

    HP Zbook 17 G1 i7-4700MQ
    HP Zbook 17 G2 i5-4340M
    HP Elitebook 8770w i7-3520M

All have MXM Type-B slot and dualpiped heatsinks (excluding all but's)

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First boot with Zbook 17 G1, the fan starts up for 2 seconds. Turns off for another 2 seconds and the goes full max speed.

The system boots up in HYBRID graphics mode.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The thing boots up and Device manager states Microsoft Basic ********

Getting the ID's converting the ID's and inserting into .inf files. Start the installer 448.xx, failure.

In the meanwhile me trying and fixing up .inf files, making sure everthing is input correctly, the DCH driver starts up.

    CARD IS WORKING.

Starting up Crash Bandicoot 'N' sane Trilogy. Excellent graphics but light stutterings(prolly old drivers).

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finished experimenting with the card, the blowing already driving me crazy by the time. Then I though, I should get some stats.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Debates with seller have been started by now.

I disassemble the G1 and move up to G2, skip time, everything done.

Boot up, same ****, fan full power and DCH graphics working.

After getting advice that Zbooks do not work with GTX 980m, i went to work nextday, took a 8770w with K3000M installed and did the same process.

Boot up and you wont believe, same thing happened.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I do not really understand what in earth is wrong with the card.. When fan goes max speed first though is that the motherboard does not get info from heat sensors, although the vBios is correct and I see it's version in Bios. Then another thing, you can see the temp in HWINFO as well..

Would be super glad if someone could help me here :p.

    <- Video

At this point I didn't even try to install any drivers, just show that It's going max fan speed from the boot up on a 8770w that is actually supported as we all know(not trying to be cocky, just making sure)

    Everything has been done.

My GTX 980M is running on my Zbook 17 G1 like charm. For that I have been through something.

But someday I will need to upgrade further, so:

@triturbo, I want you to tell me If 1070 mxm will work on my laptop. I don't know about the optimus/dreamcolor compatibility and I'd like to point out that 980M runs max 74 degrees on my lappy.
Is it possible to run the 1070 card on my zbook? Here's partsurfer list for it:

No idea about the ZBook, for 8770w DreamColor is mandatory from what I know. There are other users with firsthand experience on the matter.

Hi, yes - GTX 1070 will work ONLY on DreamColor. This combo works like a charm.
I wouldn't try it on zBook G1 (again - DreamColor is a must) - if work at all (which is highly questionable), it will restrict the power of 1070 to the level of 1060 (some incompatibilities with the EC)

Hey Excuse me for intruding but I need a second opinion from you, Im gonna go a little off topic. I have a GTX 980M thats having some issues running in an 8770W. Everytime the GPU load reaches over 90% usage it appears to be under some type of throttling. once over 90% usage, the power perfcap turns on, the core clock speed fluctuates from 1038 to 1126, and whats most concerning, is the GPU voltage fluctuates from .9710 to 1.0430. after some time the laptop instantly shuts off and restarts after about a second. the GPU core temp is fine(about under 75c on max load) I Assume the RAM is fine too. Now if I run OCCT or Furmark, the same thing occurs BUT, the Core clock and voltage drop to under 900-885Mhz/.9006-.9370V, still fluctuations but not shutdown occurs. Now if its under 90% then everything is fine, no shut downs and the voltage is stable

mirage_bg says it might be a faulty mosfet. now when I looked up GPU-Z the GPU info screen showed a default boost clock of 0 which was odd. I checked the bios and it was a Dell bios which was odd(I assume this is a Clevo 980M since its a light blue board with the 3 chokes and the capacitors in between). I flashed a Clevo one on it and that anomaly disappeared but the instability shut down issue still occurs.

My screen recently appears to have went out as well and im not sure why no major physical damage has occured to the laptop and the screen is still detected by Windows as the primary screen and I do see some very faint contrast changes when I plug in the external monitor signaling the picture switching over but its mostly a black screen(maybe backlight trying to come on?) but that for now is a different issue and im not sure if its related to the 980M and its instability comment on that if you wish

My main issue is the cards apparent instability, do you agree with mirage_bg?
