Has anyone managed to get a VGA to RCA adaptor work with their notebooks ? (Especially with a M1330)

I am used to watching movies and streaming videos on my analog standard def CRT TV. With my previous M1210 it wasn’t a problem. But the new M1330 only has a (useless) HDMI port. So I purchased one of these cheap adaptors from e-Bay, but I had my doubts on getting it to work from the beginning. Finally it arrived today.

As I guessed, it didn't work. However, a video signal is going to the TV, because when I switch displays, I get wavy black & white lines all over the TV screen(like what you see when trying to switch to unsupported resolutions/refresh rates in very old CRT monitors). And changing the output resolution causes different patterns, but can’t get anything clear even at 800x600 (the lowest supported resolution in ForceWare driver under Vista). I tried all the options I can think of, but nothing worked.

Secondary output is detected as an Analog display (not as a TV), I think that is the main problem. There is no way to force it. Force television detection option is disabled, see the screenshot. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks.

I just used a VGA cable.

Now see it's a trick to do this. You can't seem to work it with one display.

Multiple displays is the only way to do it for me.

What type of a connector do you have in your TV ? Does it have a VGA input ?

My TV is a little old, no PC mode or VGA connectors, only standard AV inputs (yellow RCA jacks). I have tried all the configurations and settings: separate, shared, extended desktops, different refresh rates, resolutions. Nothing works.

Now I’m beginning to think that a simple cable converter won’t do it for me. Maybe I’d need a more expensive video converter box like this:

Yes I did (but no luck), But as I said before, my TV is old = No PC mode or VGA inputs. If yours has a special model like PC mode, then it must be doing some extra processing to convert the signal : downsampling the resolution, matching video systems or refresh rates..... something to make it compatible

Are you also using RCA jack ? OR S-Video ?

    Thanks for your input.

I actually bought a cheap VGA>S-Video(or composite, it's either) and it doesn't work on either my father's VAIO SZ4 nor my E6400.

I think that you're SOL. Need one of those converter boxes.
