?

Should MSI consider getting Ryzen 3rd Gen CPUs onboard their products?

    Hi everyone,

Just signed in after a long, long time. Been a couple of years or so since the Alienware 17R3 debacle & refund (http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...are-17r3-2016-seeking-advice-opinions.798921/). Bought a MSI GL62 6QF for work, after that. And a MSI GT72VR 7RE Dominator Pro for gaming, thereafter. Happy with both.

Seems like MSI really appealed to me & stuck onto me as a brand, after that incident with Alienware.
Further went on to buy a new MSI GE75 Raider 8SG (RTX 2080 Mobile version) last month (March 2019).
Upgraded the resident 1TB HDD to a 2TB SSD (Samsung 860 QVO).
It was really convenient that the MSI GE75 Raider shipped with 2x 256GB NVMe SSDs in striped RAID. I had to triple boot my system (Win10, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS & Kali), so I shifted RAID to AHCI + turned Fastboot, Intel RST Premium & SecureBoot off.

I know that MSI products are notorious for not playing well with Linux & multi-boot, but I'm happy to say that I've triple booted my system successfully with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, Windows 10 & Kali Linux. System integrity is maintained. There's an odd chance that (Kali / Ubuntu) system wont detect Network Card on Boot (Killer Wifi is meh), but this is just a problem 0.0001% of the time. 99.9999% of the time, system detects it properly. Even when I come across this problem, I find that a reboot solves it effortlessly. There are some Network Card issues in Windows 10 as well, but it's more of a Windows 10 problem & are easy to solve.

I'm an Information Security Professional & also dabble in next gen tech for professional purposes. Scripting, AI, Cloud Computing, Blockchain, IoT, etc are pretty much bread and butter along with Information Security stuff. Running Multiple VMWare Boxes simultaneously is a day-to-day affair. Whirled around MS Office 2019, Adobe CC 2019 & some media processing software as well (I also own InfoSec & IT companies, so tend to have to get my hands dirty in everything).

RTX 2080 & Per Key RGB are AMAZING!!!!!!
Got them (both) to work in Kali & Ubuntu as well.
I think it's pretty cool, and the keyboards must have bound flash memory or something to store profiles across boots & operating systems.
Build quality is without doubt, very very satisfying.
I thoroughly enjoy MSI products' build quality.
This laptop also plays well with NVIDIA Optimus & Cuda Toolkit in Debian flavors of Linux.

Intel i7 8750H is half decent, though its performance is slightly averagish.
Steel Series Keyboard did give me some problems in the first week (several keys started popping out, etc), but the service center handled it with a panel replacement. No problems ever since. The gaming experience is pretty good (awesome!), on this laptop.
CPU Temps are slightly above expectations, (round 91C to 92C in the hot indian summer in a non-airconditioned room), but the moment I switch on the AC & coolerboost simultaneously, temps drop, by 4C to 5C.

GPU Temps rarely ever cross 80C in any case.

I also have two other MSI Laptops:
    1. MSI GT72VR 7RE Dominator Pro (really enjoyed this one during extended gaming, only downside is size)
    2. MSI GL62 6QF (Used to use this as my daily driver until I got the GE75 Raider)

Now I can enjoy the form factor of the GL62 with the computing power that shadows that of my GT72VR 7RE.

    To Summarize:
Very happy with MSI products, especially the GE75 Raider.
Waiting for Steam sale to pick up Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
Played Anthem, Battlefield 5, Hitman 2, Apex Legends & Metro Exodus on this monster.
GE75 Raider's RTX 2080 performance slays that of every other laptop in the same category & price range!

    Wishlist:
    1. Wish MSI would consider onboarding Ryzen 3rd Gen on their products.
Imagine if they could manage a Ryzen9 3rd Gen with a RTX 3080 or similar, in the future.
With their patented cooling systems (CoolerBoost 5 is really, really good), they'd set the bar very, very high. Waiting for Ryzen 3rd Gen to debut. Can't wait!
    2. Wish battery life could be extended on the go (it's slightly averagish, but not a deal breaker).

Did you have any issues with the BIOS/UEFI while installing GNU/Linux? I would appreciate any feedbacks... did you have to jump through many hoops, acpi issues etc.
