its just marketing. DDR4-3200 modules will show as 1600 Mhz in CPU-Z and that is the correct, real frequency. DDR processes two signals per clock cycle (hence the name Double Data Rate), thus 1600 Mhz at two signals per cycle is as effective as 3200 Mhz with single signal :)

so in your case, if cpu-z shows 1333 mhz your ram runs at 2666 mhz DDR.

As you can see, the ram is capable of 2666 but the laptop will only run it at 2400 so buying ram with higher JEDEC frequency or XMP frequency won't help at all. For overclocking the CPU, use throttlestop. Use the "disable and lock turbo power limits" option and increase the turbo ration limits. The OC limit is 0.6 GHz. Even at stock frequency, the laptop's cooling system is not powerful enough to take away the heat so to get better performance, you need to repaste and add thermal pads.

Two years ago, I bought 2 x 4GB of Kingston Fury 2400 MHz CL 14 for my 2017 HP Pavilion laptop/notebook.
If your 3200 MHz CL 20 ram runs at 2400 MHz CL14 (or less), then I would keep it.

yep, 2400/CL14 would actually be around 7% faster than 3200/CL20, at least going by theoretical numbers :)

what about upgrading the BIOS, it seems that HP is a real troublemaker with that...are you privy to any news on the matter?

Hey Kers, i sincerly appreciate your post...would you mind making a video with walkthroughs and explanations? one to be highlighted to HP as it were so to enlighten us n00bs...b/c i can't find any documentation outside this thread on what your posting...and find it should be exemplified for all of us that own this laptop. (i'm on bios f.20 btw, and have micron memory, not samsung)

    Hey bro,

Could you please be so kind as to post a link to your current vid driver for us to download?

    Thanks a million,

and the community thanks you too

Would you mind working with me in getting a crowdsourced pool to pay hackers to break the BIOS? such as those on "bios mods?"

All right, this topic is usefull. So if the laptop does not have XMP support our options are very limited or difficult.
Difficult because we can still gain speed if we go for the lowest Cas latency timing RAM at the max supported speed. However we do not know at 2400MHz what Cas timing will do for example the Gskill 3000MHz Cas18 RAM, which to me seems the fastest RAM on the market and only $100.
Who is gonna be the guinea pig?

    I have this kit in 16GB (8GBx2) and it boots to 2666, timings are 17-19-19-39 2T I think, WINRAR @ 4.3Ghz w/ hyperthreading was 15,400KB/sec

Thank you for this update! Actually than the mentioned Gskill is not an extraordinary RAM, because there is a Kingston which makes 15-17-17 at 2666MHz.
