A lot of laptops have colored tape over connections. I am not exactly sure why. It could be used as a tamper type seal to see if you tampered with it. I have no clue. I had an Alienware with orange tape over a ribbon area and a Dell with green tape.

wouldn't let me connect to database :/
i was able to find that part number on a german site but alas i dont read it, using babelfish it looks like it may only be the primary hdd caddy.

i got an email back from an e-store rep(north america), apparently they aren't selling the secondary HDD bracket as of yet, but they will be updating their e-store catalog soon, so who knows, i'll keep looking

There is no difference in the HDD bracket, depending on what side you use change the mounting holes. One bracket for either side.

So is getting to the fourth hidden RAM slot a huge PITA, or is it a lot easier than it's sounding?

No, it's a PITA. You'll have to open her up to get the top panel off to get to it.

Brian@ASUS posted a sticky that HDD caddies are now available; however, the e-store only lists a caddy for the G73.

Does anyone know if the G73 caddy works in the G53? It looks similar to the pictures posted by bendok.

Also, bendok's pictures depict what look to be rubber strips for shock absorption, but I can't quite tell from the e-store photos if they're on the caddies.
