I have the Sigmatel 975X driver in my I9200.

    BUT...
If you have XP, you can go into the regestry and increase the options on your Windows volume control panel.

    Start\Run and type " regedit "
    Browse to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000\Settings

(As always before editing the registry, right-click the folder, and click "Export". Select a place to export a copy of that registry folder. This is backing up that part of the registry in case you do not like the results of changing it, or you mess it up. All you have to do is click on the ".reg" file, and it will ask you if you want to add it to your registry.)

DWORD values with "01" mean "yes", and "00" means "no".
You can edit a DWORD value by right-clicking, and selecting "Edit". In the pop-up menu, highlight the last two numbers (either "00", or "01") and replace them with what you want.

You will see that many controls are disabled. Some are disabled simply because the card does not support them. But others are not. Do a few at a time. Don't do any you do not understand, and if any changes don't produce a result, change them back.

When you close the registry, open the properties of the volume control. Here you will see check boxes that need to be checked. Close out and double click the volume icon in the task bar. The fun begins!

Here is what my changes look like...

Now if you trust me, (and I make NO guarantees about ANYTHING, nor do I take ANY responsibility for anything but good results! :p) then you can copy everything in between the lines (not the lines) on to your notepad, you can save it as "what ever you want to call it".reg, and then click on it, and it can be loaded right into your registry.

But like I said, always back up your registry before making such changes.

It Works To All Sigmatel Cards If You Have Xp And 9400 AND HAVE THIS R122161.EXE SIGMATEL DRIVER WHISH NEARRLY ALL 9400 HAVE!
when you plug in your headphones, just choose the second alternativ, and of you go.

(its MANY people on notebook forum who use this awesome sound change).

Unfortunately this does NOT work in Vista. I just tried it a little while ago. It doesn't open up the feature set as this driver does in XP. I hope they release an updated INF file to open up features for the Sigmatel HD Audio chip found in the Inspiron's running Vista.

    Great find anyway!

On a side note, I've been using DFX Audio Enhancer v8 and it does wonders for my speakers. It's basically a software EQ with tonnes of presets (or you can manually set).

    R U YELLING AT ME?!

You first stated " this guide is for Dell 17" (but i think its works for all Dell laptops with Sigmatel sound card). "
I was just confirming that it only works on the 92xx series Sigmatel cards, that's all.

sorry, not meant like that. (but i also wrote i "think" its works for all sigmatel...... NOT i know its works for all sigmatel.....). but i know its works if you have a 9400/m1710/M90 and use XP and of course have the R122161.EXE SIGMATEL DRIVER.

hope the others guys work it out, the sound (specially the bass) gets a lot better, when you use this file.

yes, you need to change (tweak) the equalizer to get better sound. (default settings sounds like it normally does).

i remember first time i heard the different, wwooaahh, it was really awesome. so much better sound now.

Tried both hacks but doesn’t work with M1210.

    1. I think M1210 uses 92XXM8-2.INI instead of 92XXM2-3.INI, because the device ID of the currently installed driver can only be found in 92XXM8-2.INI file. If I get some free time I will try to modify 92XXM8-2.INI with the changes of 92XXM2-3.INI, who knows, it might work.

    2. For M1210 those registry settings are stored under {4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0005\Settings not under 0000. I tried merging them to 0005 but still didn’t work.

Since the M1210 has a 5.1 output, maybe it is different. :(

sydney_australia, the m1710 has the same sound card and settings like 9400/e1705, (you have to order beside to get a other sound card), so yes, this file works for m1710 as well.

dont forgett, i use XP (all who get this modd working, use XP)....vista sucks...he he
