I do like the independent fans, he didn't mention that part of the improvements were to make the cards not melt...

I didn't get a GTX 1070/1080 simply because I can't afford it but if I were to spend that much money on a GPU I would have gotten a card that has a VRM heatsink.

My Gigabyte GTX 1060 mini that just arrived, although not as high end has main heatsink attached to the VRM's via thermal tape for optimal cooling; I did extensive research (even translated in Russian) in order to pick the best card for the money in my price range highly taking into consideration VRM cooling in which directly affect overclock ability (though I don't plan on overclocking my videocard).

The GPU heatsink has two heatpipes (closely resembling a modified ARCTIC Accelero GPU cooler) with thermal tape over the VRM's so heat gets immediately transferred and is cooled effectively by the main heatsink/fan.

In fact even the MSI GTX 1060 with twin fans (was my first choice) only has one heatpipe and a generic VRM cooler below it which from reviews the temps go over 60 degrees Celsius as oppose to the Gigabyte version which only tops out at 40 degrees Celsius for the VRM's.

That really helped me narrow down the choices of choosing the right brand.
