    Hello,

I have seen these cards on Taobao. I would like to know if anybody already tried such upgrades on a m18x R2 or if it is even technically possible?

    Hi...

The new NVIDIA and AMD cards do not support notebooks with LVDS display panels. Only eDP panels are supported. This is no upgrade path beyond Maxwell.

You'll have to settle for Maxwell or invest in a new laptop that has proper Pascal support.

Not to mention, the power used. Pascal Desktop MxMs may require More power and the M18X may not support it. Only Clevo (Eurocom, Aftershock, Sager) supports since they use their own power wires to feed in more power. Not sure about other brands who don't use BGA motherboard (all soldered which is bad)

But yes, as Mr Fox said and I have also confirmed with one of my friend who works as an engineer in Nvidia who was also involved in the architecture of Pascal, the screens used on the 18 are Legacy a.k.a LVDS. Pascal only supports eDP type of screens.

So even if you somehow managed to fit the card and cool it well, or even feed enough power, it won't work. Either the 18 would reject the card or nothing would appear on the screen, thereby making this upgrade useless or a waste

    NO

M18x can even support up to 180W for MXM slot but they are not compatible

It just struck me - you can use the HDMI-In. It would require quite some soldering, would consume more power and finally might have more input lag, but chances are that it is possible. Whether it's feasible is another story.
