Hi, recently my laptop stopped turning on. I tried some basic troubleshooting on my own, and narrowed it down to either the graphics card (GTX 880m) or the motherboard.

I sent the laptop to a repair shop for diagnostics, and sure enough, the identified issues were:
    1) some capacitors on the motherboard (related to GPU power) were dead.
    2) the graphics card itself was also not working.

They replaced the capacitors, but said they could not find a compatible GPU, so they sent the laptop back free of charge. It was still not turning on, however, so they charged me nothing.

My question now is: will I be able to get it to turn on without the dedicated GPU? I figured I could just use the iGPU while I try to find a new dGPU. However, maybe the laptop is engineered such that it will not turn on without a working dGPU at all. Should I go ahead and remove the dGPU and then try to turn it on, or will it be a waste of time?

    Thanks in advance

If it hasn't been tried already and the laptop has Optimus, I think it would not hurt to try.

Alright, getting the laptop to work again may be a lost cause, but at least maybe we could determine the cause.

In the past, I have accidentally unplugged the AC adapter while under heavy load (hybrid power was engaged)a couple of times. Could this have been the cause of this laptop's demise? I remember reading somewhere that it could damage the laptop
