    Hi,

    I have a Medion Erazer X6819 (GT 683) with MS-16F2 mobo with i7 2670QM G2 socket (Sandybridge)

I was looking for some advice - i have already upgraded the Graphics from a GTX 570m 1.5gb to a GTX 970m 6gb and thats running nice, but i am now looking at upgrading the CPU and RAM

I have been doing some reading and been told it will take a i7 3940XM or 3840QM (Ivybridge) on one forum and they both say G2 socket but i was told on another forum that a 2960XM (Sandybridge) is the highest i can go.

Can you shed any light on this, really want to see how far i can go with this.

not the socket is different, this is the same... but the chipset don´t support Ivy Bridge CPU´s.

for example, you can use an i7-2670QM (Sandybridge) in a GT60/GT70 with HM76 Chipset, this device comes with Ivy Bridge CPU´s.

So a 2860QM or 2960XM i7's are about as far as i can upgrade?
The performance boost on the 2670QM seems pretty decent

take the 2860QM, because this CPU has 45W TDP, the 2960XM has 55W...

Yes, (sorryI mixed with Clarkfields) about 20 - 30% more performance is a nice improvement, beats my 3630QM with some margin.
