    No, but most often it is identical. The SPB1's specification sheets shows it's a normal design and, while there's no freely available sheet for the W02, other 4k/40-pin Samsung panels use the same pin-out, so wouldn't worry about this at all.
    No, the difference is too small. The pins themselves would not be the problem; they'd be rated for the maximum draw permitted by the eDP specifications. Only possible problem could be where the laptop's motherboard cannot supply the amperes, resulting in a slightly dimmer screen. Anyway, 5W is still very little, so not much of an issue here.
    No, similar as the above.
    Take them to an electronics (laptop/smartphone) repair shop, somewhere where they have a decent soldering iron. It's a fairly simple job, expect $30 or so. Only tricky bit is making sure the right wires are matched, but tracking the MSI cable's wires closely should suffice.

    Do ask them to make the cut near the mb. That way the more fragile solder joints will remain within the static base, not near the hinges where they'd be stressed by the repeated opening and closing of the lid. Lcd-side is possible too, but the heat-shrink tubes will almost double the original cable's width, so it'd probably be hard to fit back underneath the bezel.

    So this is really false advertising. This is at best half 4k resolution, as long as the 4 neighboring pixels can share a green sub-pixel of the same density.

    Hi, do you have any update about this project? Are you able to upgrade to 4k panel? I have best buy model with bad lcd screen and would like to upgrade it to 4k panel. Thanks.

    The Sharp 3840x2160 display I expect to work if you are able to adapt the 0.4mm-pitch cable. If not, you could try the 3K 2880x1620 screen? 40-pin 0.5mm-pitch connector, and still more pixels than false-4K pentile. (MSI really pulled a fast one on us with the "upgrade" from the Ghost Pro 3K to Ghost Pro 4K. The pentile false-4K is literally a worse screen in just about every way imaginable than the 3K screen).

    See my thread here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...creen-with-a-true-3k-2880x1620-screen.799504/

    EDIT: Which, in retrospect, I should have probably posted in this forum and made it about more than just the ASUS models

    I mean the same as the false-4K display, 40 pin 0.5mm pitch instead of 40 pin 0.4mm like the IGZO panel.

    Panel you can buy on eBay, cable I'm not sure.

    Also I'm not 100% guaranteeing compatibility or anything, just noting the connector is the same and guessing that the pinout is the same.

    @jpsjosh ,
    If this project is only being held up by not being able to create the right cable; ship both to me and I'll solder together the hybrid cable. Shipping cost shouldn't be an issue (since they'll fit in an envelope) and there's no charge otherwise.

    You might honestly like the 2880x1620 screen VVX16T028J00 better than the false-4K LP156UD1-SPB1. I can't guarantee compatiblity, but the screen was used in the Ghost Pro 3K before they switched to making the Ghost pro Faux-K

    Thanks for your input. Looks like this panel is sold at the same price as 4k panel but has better contrast. Do you know what part number of the edp 40 pin cable to make this panel work with gs63vr? Thanks.
