I recently bought the IdeaPad Y500 in my sig and like it a lot so far. Good build quality and screen and great gaming and content creation capabilities. Just came across some insane deals for the Y400 and Y500 and thought I'd share it here. Act fast though because this is a limited-time offer.

Go here and sign up for a free Lenovo Barnes & Noble Gold account and log in with it. Only takes a minute and is required to get these insane deals.

    Enjoy:

Those are some good deals. I am thrilled with my Y500, even got the SLI ultrabay and 170w ps.
For a sub-1000 dollar machine, it is a steal.

    Tell me about it. :D

I'm running Battlefield 3 @ 1080p High with AA and motion blur turned off. Smooth as butter 50-60 FPS average even in big 64-player battles.

Great deal. I actually ordered a y500 earlier today, didn't know about this barnes and noble deal so I went with the online prices which is about $20-30 more then the b&n discount.

Was gonna order off the lenovo site but decided to call the sales line to haggle a lil bit ,maybe extra deal or discounts lol. It worked, haha. I asked about the notorious touchpad problem, lenovo rep said they were aware and the newer machines shouldn't have this problem and comes with better software (elan-synaptic issue). I expected to hear something like this from the sales rep, so i was still acted concerned, and asked bout warranty, etc.

I gave off an interested but still unsure vibe, I asked the rep if I bought laptop today if he could hook me up with any additional promo/discount not counting the running promo they have now. Guy pauses, types something in his computer and tells me the y500 models with 1080p FHD came an additional 6% discount. I decided to grab the single cpu 650m 1080p 59360242 model for $799 . With the discount it came down to around $750 and with taxes, total came to around $800.

So if anyone is interested in ordering any Lenovo laptops, call their sales line and haggle with them. It seems the sales rep really wanna make sales so ask for discounts, they wont tell u flatout but they have em! I was actually surprised to hear the rep gave the discount so easy lol. Wish would of knew bout this B&N deal woulda been a sweeter deal. I'm happy tho, powerhouse laptop for under $800 with soooo much upgrade potential.

Quick ques tho, prob not gonna spring for the sli upgrade for awhile, is the y500 with single 650m cpu good enough to run the new SimCity? Only game i wanna play atm.

Yep haggling is how I got a great price on my Y500 too. Glad to hear that it worked for you too.

    SimCity benchmarks:

    SimCity Performance, Benchmarked - TechSpot

Seems to have terrible performance and very CPU-bound.

Damn, looks like I might have to spring for that update sooner then I expected. Can I only get the second 650m that is ultrabayed from lenovo or does anyone else sells it (newegg?).

Also it seems the model I order is like yours opticeps just without the second gpu. How recent did u buy it and would you mind telling me how much u got everything for? Thinking about possibly calling in to modify the order and springing for the sli upgrade.

Also u prob been asked a thousand times, but since u said u ordered recently, any touchpad issues?

You can only get the Ultrabay GPU from Lenovo.com at the moment. No idea if it's ever gonna be available elsewhere.

I ordered mine at the beginning of the month through the Barnes & Noble Gold site. I bought the laptop along with the Ultrabay GPU and 170W AC adapter (required for SLI). Back then the laptop was $809, GPU $117, and charger $68. I was able to haggle with the sales rep on the phone to give me the charger and GPU for $150 together so I paid $959 total before tax.

Right now the laptop is $779 and charger $68 but the GPU has shot back up to $195 (it was on sale for $117 when I bought it). If you can't convince the sales rep to lower the price of the GPU for you I'd wait until it hopefully goes on sale again before buying it.

I don't have the major touchpad issues that early buyers reported because mine is the revised Synaptics model. As long as your system has BIOS v1.05 or higher and the Synaptics hardware you should be good. The clickpad design isn't the greatest so the cursor will sometimes slip around on-screen when tapping in the left click zone, which is annoying because it usually causes you to click the wrong place, but overall it is usable for the rare instances when I need it.

My Y500 is actually getting replaced with an identical unit because this one came with a bunch of stuck pixels on the screen. Besides that, though, the machine has been a joy to use so far.

I placed my order for the Y400 over the phone. I asked about additional discount but she wouldn't budge, but its a really good price anyway. I am also terrible at haggling.

Should've called in a few more times. I didn't get it on my first try either.

Yeah its not a huge deal it would have been like 40 bucks or something and the price is already the best around for that configuration. Plus they said I had a 1 day price protection.

Looks like the deals ended yesterday. New deals up. The non B+N lowest for the Y400 is now $749 (as opposed to 719). But the first config on the left has a 750 GB 7200 RPM drive. Man I would have taken that over the 1 TB 5400 RPM drive I ordered.
