I had a dell 9400 for about 1 1/2 years and i was getting some porblems which seems to be the video card.

when i was playing fear 2 for about 2 mins :( the pc just lock up!? after a hard shutdown the bios and vista start up screen was full of green, blue and yellow lines fallowed by a blue screen error "Physical Memory Dumping"

now the only way i can use my pc is in safemod and that sucks is there any fixes or the vcard dead?

Umm the "Physical Memory Dumping" seems more RAM MEMORY related than video card... Why don't you run MEMTEST to check your memory...

"Physical Memory Dumping" doesn't necessarily mean a RAM problem.

cars-are-cool: sounds like your video card is indeed fried. A distorted screen like that indicates something failed. Try hooking your notebook up to an external monitor and see if you can boot then.

The lines are also on my external monitor and the ram passed a memory test.

looks like your gpu is indeed toast - time to get either a new card, costly, or a new gaming rig.

Your video card is definitely dead. :(

Call Dell and see what they say; they will probably tell you they aren't going to do anything since the warranty is out, but it's worth a call. Ask how much it would be to get the machine repaired. If it's more than $200, forget about it and buy a new notebook. It's just not worth it to revive a dead horse.

Same thing happened to me, thank God I had the warranty.

If lines are showing up in the BIOS screen, your GPU is fried.

Run a Dell Diagnostic... and do a test specifically on your video card. Boot up the computer and press F12 on the boot screen, then select diagnostics. Write down the error codes and quote them to Dell.

I'm not sure how much a card will cost you out of warranty... good luck man!

i am going to call dell tomorrow and see what they say. but 2nd hand cards cost $250US  on ebay thats to much for a dx 9 4 year old card!

    BTW
This is a way i found to get the computer in to windows normally

1 boot in to safe mode
    2 install video driver
3 restart and go back into safe mode
4 uninstall driver with windows uninstaller
5 reboot and it will boot windows with out the blue screen

the res in very low but at lest i have sound and basic video playback  but it have to be done at every boot up so its very annoying.
