    General Questions

    1) What is your budget?
Preferably under $1600 but I'll go up if I can get financing

    2) What size notebook would you prefer?
    e. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen
    3) Which country will you buying this notebook?

    4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
    a. Like: Asus
    b. Dislike: None (I'm trying to get over my mid-2000s distaste for Alienware)
    5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed?

    6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
Writing, Graphics in GIMP, and a whole lot of Tomb Raider and Sims

    7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?
I don't plan on going to a coffee shop or anything but something I can carry through the airport to take on long visits to family would be nice.

    8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? (If so, please state which games or types of games?)
FPS, a lot of Tomb Raider, a lot of Sims. I'm just getting back into gaming after finishing college so just assume I'll want to play anything and everything new on at least medium graphics.

    9) How many hours of battery life do you need?
Not important. I plan to stay plugged in tbh

    10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?
    Can buy w/o seeing it.

    11) What OS do you prefer? Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Chrome OS, etc.

    Screen Specifics

    12) What screen resolution(s) would you prefer? (See further below for explanations.)
    1920 x 1080

    13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? (See further below for explanations.)
    No preference

    Build Quality and Design

    14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
    Not really

    Notebook Components

    15) How much hard drive space do you need?
Definitely want SSD for booting up (which seems to be the standard now anyway) and at least 1TB for my stuff in general.

    Timing, Warranty and Longevity

    16) When are you buying this laptop?
    Next three months, I hope

    17) How long do you expect to use this laptop?
Years. I currently have an ASUS g73 I bought in 2010. Literally what I'm using to type this up right now.

    18) How long could you afford to do without your laptop if it were to fail?
A month? I have backups (chromebook, phone) I could use for work.

    19) Would you be willing to pay significantly extra for on-site warranty, or would it be acceptable to you to have to ship the laptop to the vendor for repair with perhaps a week or more outage?
I'd be okay with shipping it.

As I said above, I've had my ASUS G73 for nine years. (You can even go back and see my posts in this forum from 2018). I baby my stuff so my G73 is still working surprisingly well but I know I'm due for a new one sooner rather than later. But since I've had this one so long, and have spent the last few years getting a science degree, I'm utterly lost on what's current for gamers anymore.
