I don't know if this is necessarily true. According to Gateway the NV53 series came with two different video graphic chipsets. One is the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 and the other is the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570. Most laptop manufacturers create a base line motherboard and change options for there model line, such as the NV53 series. Options include different processors, video cards, memory and hard drives sizes.

You may or may not be able to upgrade it also depends on the motherboard. Sometimes motherboards change for newer options. Or it may have integrated video like bikerboy94 said.

I have been repairing laptops for a while now and currently have a NV53 series laptop (and love it) and currently looking to upgrade the processor. I have MX300 (2 GHz ) and looking to upgrade to M660 ( 2.7 GHz )or M640 ( 2.6 GHz ). I am also currently looking into upgrading the video on it. I have looked at the motherboard layout and I think that there is another PCIe slot next to the wifi card. But I'm not 100% sure and need to take mine apart to look further.

Here is the link from Gateway with what the NV53 series came with.

I have an NV53a with ATI 5650 and its integrated into the motherboard. Im pretty sure the 4570 would be the same story -- so there would not be a card you could remove and replace like the geforce 9800's of other laptops.

You can,t upgrade the GPU in 99% of laptops. They are built into motherboard even though they have dedicated memory.
