This is why I've compared the i5-2430M to my friend's i7-3610QM, with supposedly the exact same hardware (6GB DDR3, 500GB 5400RPM, Windows 10 Home) and both systems are respectively 6 and 5 years old. The snappiness in the Toshiba laptop felt like I'm using my Acer back in 2012. It looks like moving from a 2x2 core to a 4x4 CPU makes a world of a difference!

Yeah it does make a fairly large difference (though a 7500u is pretty decent for general windows usage). But both these cpus are true quads. Hyperthreading and clockspeed give the i7 like a 10% advantage, but both are so much faster than a 2430m you would most likely fail a blind test attempting to pick which is which.

Also if you get a machine with a solid state drive instead of a hard drive you'll be blown away.

My 6500u dual core with an ssd was way faster than my quad core i7 using a hard drive.

I was about to replace my 6YO HDD with a 2.5" SATA3 SSD, but right now I'd rather keep that cash and buy a new laptop by the next summer. I won't reveal my picks now.

That's a hard price point, you either need to find a sale on a 1050 laptop, or a refurbed 960m laptop.

What is the lowest price on a new/used/refurbished 1050Ti (or better) laptop/notebook?

So far, the lowest price I found is the MSI GL62M with
    i5-7300HQ GTX 1050Ti 256GB SSD at $830USD on amazon.

I searched ebay but used/refurbished 1050Ti laptops are rare.
Main thing I like abut the MSI GL62M is MSI cooling (good cooling = less temperature throttling)
and the 256GB SSD. I will use external USB hard drive

Low quality display does not bother me because will use external monitor.
Are there any laptops/notebooks (or portable PC's) with a 1050 Ti (or better) which cost less than $830 (shipped to US address), either new or used?

Any discounts/coupons if I buy the MSI GL62M from amazon?

I looked at Clevo/Sager. Pity they don't offer core i5 because I'd love to buy a cheap laptop without OS. The core i7 + 1050 Ti + SSD on the clevo/sager brings the price above $830, and that is without an operating system!
