Oh that makes sense. With a discount like that it is very hard to justify the 9880H.

How do you like the Omen software? I believe it is still a Windows 10 UWP App (like the new Alienware Control Center) but hopefully is isn't nearly as buggy. Does it have any fan control options?

I like the software. It's very basic and straightforward, but does seem to do the job. There are 3 three fan control options; Silent, standard and performance.

No home service and no replacement unit. The seller want me to return it for a full refund. :-/

Guess I'll do that. Too bad. I liked the Omen.

So what's left then? Asus ROG G703GXR and the Zephyrus. Pretty much. Crap. :-(

You could try the G703GXR. I wouldn't bother with the Zephyrus. In the US the G703GXR seems to cost 30% more than the Omen 17T, but maybe the quality is better with the higher cost.

You could always look into building an ITX desktop - that would be far easier to fix issues like fan noise and what not.

I have thought about ITX desktop, and there are nice options, but I'll lose portability, which is important for me.

Maybe I'll just wait a while and see what happens in the laptop world.

It seems the most viable computer right now for me is the 51M after all. :-/

    I'll ponder that a bit... ;-)

There's rumors that there's gonna be a SUPER refresh for Nvidia laptop GPUs coming out in March and 10th gen Intel CPUs are coming soon. There's also AMD Ryzen cpus to look at as well.
Ampere for laptops I wouldn't expect till next year since the laptop GPUs typically take a year to come out after the desktop ones

These are what I can think of:
_ Asus ROG Mothership: different design (similar to Surface Pro), good cooling
_ MSI GT 75 Titan ( the GT76 Titan does NOT support G-sync)
_ Clevo/Sager P870TM, P775TM with 9900K and RTX 2080: recommended with Prema BIOS, the only two 17" laptops with 9900K, besides Area 51M, replaceable CPU and MXM GPU.

    Hope this helps.

You might consider the AORUS 17 that comes with FHX 240Hz panel and the keyboard itself is designed for gaming, with a mechanical OMRON blue switch keyboard provide both tactile and audible feedback.
