I'm going to get the G53SW this weekend to replace my very much flawed m15x-R1.

After a long debate with myself I think this is the best choice as there may only approx. an inch more in added depth and width for a 17' monitor, but the same specs and resolution why not just get the smaller version? If you had to sacrifice on specs and resolution then sure the G73JW is a whole different decision.

The only thing against the G53JW over the G73JW is aesthetics in terms of bezel size and disassembly. I also think you won't nice 1 inch of size on either model as it's hidden behind the screen, unlike other laptops which have hinges pivoting on the edge of the laptop body.

I also think that the ASUS G53SW will just barely fit in my current Samsonite satchel-type bag, based on a scale 2D cardboard cut-out I made using the G53JW dimensions (yes I'm that sad!). An inch more on-top of this i.e. the G73JW and it won't fit.

The GenTechPC review on YouTube has both of the G53JW and G73Jw side-by-side at the start for a comparision:
YouTube - Asus ROG G53JW nVidia GTX460M Gaming Notebook overview

In addition I found this useful website which may help:
Sized Up: Asus G73JW vs Asus G53JW vs Precision M6500 vs MacBook Pro 17 vs Studio XPS 13

I still think a card-board cut-out is the way to go though.

I think you'll also just have to accept that the G53JW is more a 16' laptop with a 15' monitor. If you can move past this then it's the best choice IMO.

Lastly as crappy as the m15x-R1 is, it's made me appreciate 1920x1080 on a 15' screen! Being my first laptop, I 'ummed and ahhed' over this prior to purchase but haven't thought negatively about it since...especially when you realize how useful it is to have 2xA4 pages side-by-side on a 15' laptop for work.

Now if only they made the G53SW with slightly smaller and with better port positioning...

Where were you able to find a G53SW? I have not seen any posted on the Reseller websites so far? This is the model I plan on getting as well.

    Definitely the G53JW/SW. Problem-free, unlike the 73-series, where it's "laptop-roulette".
