I've got two Fujitsu laptops. The 15" one has a metal hard drive caddy. The smaller 14" one has a rubber caddy that essentially sits rubber at the corners of the hard drive. This wouldn't be so bad, except there's a large sheet of rubber glued to the bottom of the hard drive as well. This is one of the most retarded things I've seen in laptop designs.

Suppose I were to replace the hard drive. I'm screwed b/c it needs that sheet of rubber at the bottom to support it, which is glued shut to the original hard drive. Has anyone found a way around it, or am I doomed to buy a hard drive caddy for the optical bay, which doesn't have or need rubber to hold the HDD in place?

This is the rubber hard drive caddy I'm talking about.

If you flip the HDD over after you remove it, you'll find a surprise... a large rubber sheet glued to the bottom of the HDD for support that cannot be removed unless you want to tear the rubber out with a knife...

I've changed quite a few of those drives over the years. The glued part should come off with a gentle pull, unless they changed it significantly in last year or two.

Yes, should come off with a gentle pull. The last such LifeBook I changed the HD in did that.
