    8) Recently acquired a ThinkPad T500 (type 2055-CTO) with a supervisor and power-on password. It's under warranty for at least another year, but apparently Lenovo can't remove this password for you, so I'm parting the thing out. Everything else is in working condition and guaranteed against DoA.

WSXGA+ display assembly with all cables and webcam.

    Priceless.

Anyway, there's also the broken motherboard itself and a battery, but I'm not sure if the BIOS password is the only issue with the board and I'm not sure if the battery holds a charge, so I'm a little hesitant to put them up for sale.

PM me if you're interested in those two, though.

    7) 677 positive, lapsapbox on eBay; sold stuff here in the past too.

Is the battery a 6 cell or 9 cell? If its a 9 - shoot me a PM and lets see if we can work something out.

Ie, you ship it to me, I'll check it out and see how many cycles it has, capacity, etc. and then work on the price.

    10.8V, 5.2AH, 57WH... doesn't explicitly tell me the cell count, but I'm pretty sure it's a 6-cell since it doesn't stick out.

    Yeah, thats the 6 cell.

if you want - you can mail it to me, I'll throw it in my T500 and give you the info from it and send it back (on your coin though)

If nothing else, I have a brand new 6 cell that I could test run times against

Yeah, thanks for the offer - if I can't find someone locally with a T500 on which to test it, I might just take you up on that.

Doesn't work on laptops. T500's no exception.

Why wouldn't Lenovo just replace the board?

They told me that the BIOS password was a "user end" problem, and that there was nothing they could do. I got this same runaround from the mail-in place, from a local, authorized repair place, and from a cursory Google search.

I mean if you've got a solution that doesn't involve soldering leads to some EEPROM, I'm all ears :D

I thought and I didn't really pay that close of attention, that if you were under warranty and got the power on password, Lenovo would replace the board. It's been a while. Perhaps Lenovo changed the policy. You might want to shoot a PM to Mark@Lenovo.com over on the Lenovo forums. He's usually pretty good about cutting through the BS and hopefully can give you a straight answer, even if it's not the one you want. The fact that you've taken in apart may effect your warranty. The other option if you want to keep it is a used board, which can get on eBay. I'd say maybe around $200, but I've not looked. Just curious, was this your machine?
