Wow, what a half-assed stance by Dell. Just admit the problem and the solution and quit hiding. Damnit their attitude with this issue is totally frustrating. Dude, I would so not buy a Dell notebook right now.

Cowards. Apparently they think their targeted consumer base is too immature for them to come out from the get-go and say, "hey, we rushed this thing to production, here's the specific problem, we're gonna fix it." Wow.
And now that the problem has come to the forefront of the digital community, they mysteriously stop shipping units without keeping their customers informed of what's going on. Only when the problem is fixed to they come out and say "oh, there was a problem. we fixed it though." Makes me trust them...[)]
Oh, and they have the gall to say that they're doing it "on the behalf of their customers." Double wow.

I love the quote, "we are not going to disclose specifics"

Okay, that's fair enough. What if people decide to not buy your product if you won't say what went wrong?

They will take that chance. Dells huge. My father works for Unisys (business computer company-used to be burroughs). They are now an official Dell seller. You wouldnt believe how much product dell moves with businesses. Better for them to take that chance then give people something concrete and specific to say against Dell and a problem they oversaw.
The only people that will remember this is the people that bought these laptops in the first few months of production.
I dont see it scarring them too badly.
