Hi, after lapping my CPU heatsink to improve the contact between CPU and heatsink I would like to cut out the restrictive plastic fan grills that come on the bottom of the zx5000 and replace them with less restrictive chrome ones. Has anyone ever done this? Do you think my gains would be worthwhile?

I know it would look cool... and 60mm fan grills fit perfectly in there.

    Any opinions?

I'd be concerned about vacuuming up large particles from your desk.

Im not so concerned about that after seeing the inside of the fan duct, im just worried about something getting intentionaly stuck in there and busting some fan blades.

To keep large objects from getting in, chicken wire might help, and it wont be very restrictive.

It probably wouldn't bust any blades, just stop the fan and burn out the motor, which is just as bad i guess. I don't think it would have any functional advantage, but I'm sure it would look great.

Now I dont think the motor would burn out just from being stalled =) what i meant was, my other box has a dual blowhole mod on the top for H20 Radiator and my friends at lan party's like to grind cheese balls and pretzels in them, needless to say one of the fans is down 2 blades. Its really bad because they are Tornadoes and make an incredible ammount of noise + vibration from the uneven fan (2 blades gone)
