    We won't see any desirable GPUs for mobile (1170/1180) until into 2019

    Yeah we're looking at Q4 of '18 or Q1 of '19. I'm betting on the latter.

    It is common knowledge that NGreedia was a bit greedy recently (or more greedy than usual? ) and produced too much Pascal GPU units which they wanted to sell to miners. However their plan flopped at the last minute and and miners don't really care about buying GPU units now.
    Because of this NGreedia has warehouses with surplus amount of Pascal GPU units.

    However according to a new rumor Ngreedia has figured out how to get rid of these stocks with decreasing the losses.
    According to the new rumors NVidia -despite having working Turing units in house- has postponed the release of the new architecture.
    Instead the GTX 11 series will be a Pascal refresh. (maybe with GDDR6 memory)

    Or maybe even just a rebrand, something similar like this:
    1180 = 1080ti
    1170 = 1080
    1160= 1170
    etc
    We all know that Ngreedia knows no shame, just look at GTX 680 + GTX 770 fiasco or for us mobile gamer GTX 780M+880M.
    Same card with boosted clocks and new name.

    But hopefully this rumor just popped out from a troll's mind and NVidia will not try to clear out their stock this way.

    What I would like to know actually if the next generation GPU for laptops will be like the current ones which are almost identical with desktop GPUs or will there be again an ''M'' addition which will be much slower than usual desktop cards.

    If so, I simply don't want to wait in vain to get a new laptop.

    My guess is the NV surplus is mostly high end parts to feed miners, so not mobile 1060 or 1050 level parts.

    So we will get new mobile parts, and I don't think the 1060 vs 980m jump is unreasonable. So the 1150 and 1160 should be in the 1060 and 1070 range, which will be amazing for XPS 15 9580 buyers.

    I could see NV doing this on the desktop side (some with memory upgrades):

    1070 = 1150ti
    1070ti = 1160
    1080ti = 1170
    new chip (paper launch) = 1180
    new chip = titan

    I'm surprised they didn't already do this for back to school.
