I just recently spent $1,400 on a Samsung 850 EVO 4tb drive. This week Samsung released the 860 EVO 4tb which has much higher TBW warranty and slightly faster specs. I can exchange my current drive for the new one since it's within the return period, but the 4tb drive is my boot drive with everything, including apps, data, etc, stored on it. Is it possible/safe to image my entire drive to an external drive, exchange the drive, and restore the image? Will restoring a system image to a different SSD cause problems with Windows, drivers, or anything else? Or should I just do a fresh install of everything? If imaging is possible/recommended, what do you recommend I do to image my SSD to an external drive before exchanging it?
