@Vasudev , Perhaps my joke was too obtuse, or much too acute? Sorry my bad there...

I called ESET, and Phoenix's answer was confirmed regarding the license versions.

But my primary reason to call was because I wondered how long a NOD32 license key would be valid before it needed to be registered, i.e. could you buy it at a discount and use it at a later date? Answer was that the ESET tech could only see the key # once someone registered it, but he'd never heard of one expiring before it was activated and hadn't ever heard the key "itself" was time stamped.

Like Phoenix mentioned somewhere in this thread long time ago, upon getting your license login to ESET and add your serial key and the key will stay there if you forget/mis-place it.

No, my question to the ESET tech was directed at the pre-login period:
    1) Buy the license
    2) Go sit on the couch for 6 months, or a year.
    3) Then try to activate.

This could realistically happen if I buy my brother a key...

The license validity only starts when you first activate it and never expires until j00 do

Looks like the most recent update broke this functionality because now the LiveGrid warning pops up after about 2 minutes of not having an Internet connection (I disconnect from the Internet when changing GPU drivers).

Yes, they are very much equivalent. No difference with my experience. Though slight changes definitely have been made but such changes do not have any impact on the performance. I recommend you to avoid paying more for the similar product and go for the cheap option
