Epic Games Store is contributing to PC digital sales decline across all platforms (including Steam), according to NPD Analyst Mat Piscatella.

Let no one say that competition always builds a healthy marketplace. According to the leading game sales expert Mat Piscatella, the introduction of Epic Games Store into the PC gaming marketplace led to lower overall consumer spending on PC content across every distribution platform. While the notion of multiple software platforms like Steam and Epic Games Store might have been sold to gamers on driving both innovation and competition among markets, new reports may be indicating that it is only driving some consumers away.

Completely agree. By now I think I have played about 5-6 epic exclusive games which I didn't buy. Sure, I will pay for some once they hit steam but still, I'm sure developers and publishers are missing out on revenue because they've let themselves tricked into selling out to epic.

Not surprising. I held out on a few currently exclusive games for EGS in 2019 as well as many other gamers.
Like article says, it will probably bounce back this year.

After EGS, I've even sworn off Steam. Standalone downloads or bust. Right now, that means GOG.

Curious, how would EGS's BS cause you stop using Steam? Except of course for the games stuck on EGS right now...

Aren't you excited for the games coming back to Steam soon? Of course I buy on GOG when I can, but not everything is there.

I thought Steam did a great job not dropping down into the dirt with EGS and making things worse, Steam let EGS make a fool out of themselves - it was "EPIC". ;)

Do you really want to miss those great games on Steam when they come back?

Probably because everyone is playing the same few online games all day instead of buying new stuff (Fortnite, Apex, COD, Destiny 2, MMORPGs, etc..)

Could this be because people are unwilling to waste money on unfinished games like Fallout 76? Nah, PC games like Fallout 76 are perfect and definitely cannot be a reason for this decline. And companies like Blizzard still continue improving their excellent games like WoW or Overwatch, there are absolutely no complaints about these from long term players on PC. /sarcasm

P.S: Fun to return to these forums and see that nothing changed and simple-minded GabeN fanbots still like to blame everything on Epic Games ;-)

Hey, there is at least one rational person left ;-)

The first line of the opening post says "contributing", not "entirely responsible" and I doubt any above you think that only Epic is responsible for the decline. They are however responsible for part of it because I'm also a buyer that refused to buy exclusives over at Epic; it could have been anyone, I don't give these kinds of business practices my money. I do agree in the main, game development is fairly broken across the board. As a way of putting some perspective on it I'm enjoying the Median XL mod on Diablo 2 more than the current games I have on my PC right now.
